topped more than 500 other runners and walkers to win the Second Annual Darren
Sproles 5k benefiting Sproles Empowered Youth on Saturday, July 6th
in a time of 16 minutes, 4 seconds. Emily Burns was the top overall women’s
finisher with a time of 22 minutes, 9 seconds.
“I’m extremely
grateful for the support we’ve received here in Kansas City,” Sproles said.
“This was the perfect way to spend my 4th of July weekend, and I
hope everyone here feels the same way. This place will always feel like home to
me and events like today show why.”
Sproles is an
alumnus of Olathe North High School (Olathe, KS) and Kansas State University.
He is now a running back for the New Orleans Saints and returns to Kansas
often. His first-ever principal and numerous former teachers were also in
attendance, showing their support him and his foundation.
